About this piece
Commissions begin with a conversation rather than a brief. People often arrive with an object, a place or a stretch of time rather than a picture in mind.
The piece photographed here was built around a single stone. Everything else was decided after that.
The usual shape is a first conversation, a direction agreed, then Placeholder: COMMISSION LEAD TIME of making with two or three updates along the way. A deposit begins the work; the balance is only due once you have seen the finished piece.
